October 14 to 20, 2013

Kind of a quiet week here.  On Monday, Vicki and I hit a few stores for the Columbus Day sales.  Since I hadn't packed a "proper" coat, I was able to get a really nice coat for Vermont at half price.  The temperatures predicted for our stay there look to be quite chilly, and one forecast even predicted snow showers!!!

On Tuesday, we picked up Lorraine at Newark Airport.  She'd been in Florida taking care of her grandchildren while her son, Rick, and his wife went to Africa for a few weeks.  She always enjoys her family but was happy to get home.  Vicki and I took her to The Ivy Inn to celebrate her birthday which was in September.  Here we three are after a great meal at one of my favorite places.

On Thursday, Vicki and I shopped again!  Shop we must to stimulate our economy.  Actually, I like to take advantage of NO SALES TAX on clothes!

Vicki worked on Friday, so I worked on my new crocheting project.  This second project can be worked on in the car on our six plus hour trip to Vermont.

My Best Airplane Friend Ever, Dorean, and I went to The Martini Grill for dinner.  I'd been there many years ago but I wasn't able to remember if I liked it or not.  I can tell you, this time I can remember - very good.  I had a spectacular duck dish . . .
and Dorean had a veal dish topped with crab.  Of course, we had the requisite martini!  Here we are leaving The Martini Grill after a wonderful dinner and gabfest!
On Saturday, Vicki worked again, after which we picked up Lorraine and went to Riverside Square, a high end shopping venue.  Lorraine treated us to dinner at Maggiano's which we all enjoyed.  I think Lorraine has become a fan of the Cosmo!!!
We three shared a wonderful pumpkin cheesecake and then walked around the mall for a short time.

On Sunday, we got up and Vicki started preparing for our trip to see the New York McKinlays.  She made a fabulous raspberry shortbread treat AND wonderful sausage and peppers.  We loaded the car and headed out around eleven o'clock.  The car smelled like Italian heaven!

Just before we got to our destination, there's a pond.  I took a great shot of it last year but my lens was smudged and was I ever sad!  So, Vicki was nice enough to stop so I could shoot a few images of the pond.  It's so beautiful there.

We got to John and Liz's home caught up on family stuff for a few hours.  Laurie and her daughter, Melissa, arrived with Kristina's daughter, Emelyn who is five.  Unfortunately, Kristina and her fiancé were unable to join us. Liz and John have two girls, Olivia and Jacqlyn and the girls played outside.  Emelyn and Olivia bounced on the trampoline until their hair was full of static electricity.
Laurie had to leave for a couple of hours to tend to her dog sitting/walking business, but returned in time to feast with us.  She provided a chocolate pie and a pumpkin pie.  And YES, I tasted Vicki's raspberry shortbread bars and Laurie's pumpkin pie and enjoyed every morsel.  I'm on vacation!!!

As we always do, photos were taken.  Me, John and Vicki!
And . . .

Melissa, Laurie, Liz, John, me and Vicki.

It's sad to leave these good folks.  Liz and John are so warm and welcoming, and Laurie is a great baker.  We just hate leaving all these McKinlays.  Until next year . . . !!!

So, Vicki and I will be heading out this crisp, Fall Monday morning to run a few errands in preparation for our Wednesday trip to Vermont.  Vicki has to work at three o'clock so I'll continue with my project this afternoon and evening.  We'll get to see the rest of our family this week - except for Sister Kathy who won't be making the trip from Florida due to health issues with her father-in-law.  But her son, Dan, will be there.  We'll miss you, Katie Bates!!! xo  ;0)

Ciao for now.
