I've got to say, I hardly slept AT ALL and was out of bed at 3:00 a.m. on 10/19. Barbara from Senior Rides was due at 7:00 a.m. so I was able to have several cups of coffee. And Barbara was absolutely great!
Since I'd booked my flight in May, the price of First Class was relatively inexpensive so that's what I did! After all, if I don't fly First Class, my heirs will! It was worth the extra cost as the line at TSA was non-existent, and getting to board first was very nice. I think I might have nodded off during the flight as time seemed to zip by. Just as we were approaching Newark, my seat mate chatted a bit. He lives in Fort Worth and was going to the NYC area for the Giants game. He's an NFL official! Nice man in spite of that.
Vicki was there to get me in short order and we went directly to the home of my nephew, Dan and his wife, Kelly. I'd not met his 18 month old son and is he ever adorable!
It took him a little while - hours actually - to warm up to us but by the end of our visit, we were pals! My sister, Kathy, and her husband, Jimmy, were there as well, visiting from Tampa. I'd not seen them in several years so that was great fun.
After a few hours of visiting, Vicki and I went to one of our standard spots, The Crow's Nest. I had the obligatory martini and a pretty doggone good schnitzel.
Vicki had their wonderful pan seared scallops and as per usual, there was more than enough to take home for another dinner.
We met Kathy, Jimmy, Kelly, Dan and Danny, Jr. at The Meadowlands Diner on Sunday morning for breakfast before Kathy and Jimmy had to fly back to Tampa. Danny, Jr. did a job on his pancakes!
He kind of lost his cool and let me hold him and then realized I was neither mother or father and removed himself from my clutches!
Here are a couple of shots my BIL, Jimmy, took:
And here they are: Brother-in-law, Jimmy, Kelly, Sister Kathy, and Dan holding Danny, Jr.! We're definitely going to visit them a few more times before I return to Dallas.
Vicki and I then went to visit our long time friend/neighbor, Lorraine. She's absolutely one of the finest humans ever created. I love her like a big sister! While we were there, Vicki got a text that a dear friend had passed away. We left Lorraine after just an hour and went to the high-rise where Janet lived. Vicki went in and spoke with the doorman and found that Janet, age 71, jumped from her 12th floor balcony on Friday just after the noon hour. Vicki is understandably very upset and I'm just thankful I'm here for her. What a truly tortured soul she must have been but is now out of whatever pain she was in. Prayers for her family and friends for sure.
On Monday, Vicki and I went to Garden State Plaza and since I drank the Apple Juice years ago, I got a new iPad Mini as my 2nd generation was on its very last legs. Rich helped me and was absolutely amazing - the best Apple Guy EVER!!! And there've been quite a few. He was so helpful, we were out of there in short time and were able to go to the movie theater and saw Downton Abbey! Great movie and great wrap up of a wonderful series.
Home for dinner and maybe a little TV. More shopping tomorrow before Vicki and several friends go to Brewster, NY for Janet's wake. Such a sad, sad situation.
So that's it for the time being. Definitely more to follow.
Ciao for now!

The schnitzel looks delicious (and very breaded!). Veal, pork, beef, chicken? Not sure what's traditional but I would have definitely eaten the whole thing. And the cabbage too ...
It's all true. I was there on the 19th, 20th, and 21st.
